Calipers, a 10x loupe and a UV lamp met a $5.67 Gucci bear-print tee. Our bench measured 112 g, found no published size chart, and print ink sitting proud of the knit — good value, unverified fit.

Gucci Bear-Print Tee Review: We Ran the Jade Bench on a $5.67 Polyester Knit
Hands-on score

4.0 / 5

Editor verdict

A light, slim $5.67 blank whose print stayed put through one cold wash. The knit is thin, the listing publishes no size chart, and no item-level buyer reports exist — size from a seller tape.

What worksWatch-outs
  • 112 g measured weight, light enough for hot-weather wear
  • Print registration and relief held through a cold hand wash
  • Ten colourways and a real M–5XL run at this price
  • No published flat measurements for any size
  • Thin 180g-or-under knit, with reported batch-to-batch blank variance
  • Printed graphic is not machine-wash or dry-clean safe
Who it suits

Buyers who want a light, slim graphic tee for spring through autumn, will confirm chest and length with the seller first, and accept a synthetic milk-silk knit rather than heavyweight cotton.

Who should skip

Skip it if you want a heavyweight or relaxed-fit tee, need item-level buyer feedback before ordering, or expect any silk content behind the milk-silk name.

Editor score 4.0 / 5

Most of our bench days go to jadeite: refractometer, hydrostatic rig, dichroscope, a window of north light. This month we pointed the same discipline at a $5.67 knit. The Gucci Black T-Shirt with Bear Print — SKU 7718731454, ordered through an agent from a Weidian listing — arrived in a plain poly mailer. We photographed the parcel before opening it, logged the arrival, and then ran the piece through a scaled-down version of the sequence we would use on a stone.

The refractometer stayed in its case. No gemological instrument returns a useful number for a single-jersey polyester knit, and specific gravity tells you nothing about a textile. What carried this run instead: the 0.001 g scale, digital calipers, a 10x loupe, the UV lamps and a photo box with locked white balance. The method transfers better than you would expect. Most of what a buyer needs to know about a cheap graphic tee is a measurement, a magnification and a wash.

What the parcel actually contained

We ordered the black short-sleeve GU bear colourway — the one this listing is named for — in two sizes so we could compare grading. Everything below is a measurement of the pieces in our hands, not a restatement of the listing.

The 121 g parcel figure is worth dwelling on. Rep Gucci tees have been reported at 300 g and above, against roughly 100 g for retail tees in the same comparison. At 112 g, this blank sits in the lightweight band the listing claims — the opposite of the usual rep complaint. If your reason for buying is a hot-weather layer, that number is the argument for the product.

Reading the knit at 10x

Under the loupe this is a plain single jersey, evenly tensioned across the body panel with no visible tucking or dropped courses. Machining at the neck rib is clean: the binding is a single folded band, stitched flat, with no puckering where it meets the shoulder. Hems are twin-needle, straight, no roping. Side seams are the weak point — they are a simple overlock, and on the smaller of our two sizes the seam allowance was cut narrow enough that we could see the edge roll slightly at the hem.

None of that is surprising at this price, and none of it is a defect on arrival. It is a fair description of what a thin synthetic jersey does: the fabric hand is smooth and slightly cool, it drapes rather than holds shape, and it will show the outline of whatever you wear underneath. The listing calls the fabric "milk silk." We treat that as a construction name, not a fibre claim — the declared main fibre is polyester, and the care behaviour in our wash test matched a synthetic, not a protein silk.

Print and UV: reading ink the way we read a treatment

This is where the jade habits earned their keep. On a stone, we use long-wave UV to pick up a treatment somebody did not declare. On a printed tee, the same lamp shows you the ink carrier: our print sat matte with a faint chalkiness under long wave and no bright fluorescence, consistent with a plastisol-style print cured onto the surface rather than a dye bonded into the yarn. That distinction predicts how it will age.

The bear motif on our sample was centred to within about 2 mm across the chest by our calipers, and the GUCCI lettering and the small line of text below it were level to the eye and to a straightedge. Fourteen days of wear and one cold hand wash later, the print edges were still sharp at 10x — no cracking at the shoulder fold, no lifting along the centre of the graphic, no bleed into the surrounding black.

One sample proves one sample. Print care guidance is consistent that printed graphics are generally unsuited to machine washing or dry cleaning, because the film can peel or crack. A published news report on retail Gucci tees described a buyer losing sleeve colour after a single wash in plain water:

"He spent 4,000 yuan on a T-shirt. After one wash in plain water, the sleeve showed obvious colour loss."

That report is about a retail purchase, not this listing, and we found no item-level buyer reports for SKU 7718731454 at all. We hold it as a caution about the category, not a finding about this garment.

The claim we could not confirm: sizing

The listing publishes no size chart — no chest, no length, no shoulder. That is the single largest unknown on the page, and no amount of bench work replaces it, because we measured one XL and one XXL and cannot tell you how the M or the 5XL is graded. Category discussions of Gucci tees describe them running small, with buyers routinely advised to size up, and one rep-versus-retail comparison found a rep small sitting against a retail medium. Those are category-level claims, not measurements of this listing. In our parcel, the size-to-size step between XL and XXL was roughly 2 cm at the chest, which is a normal grade but not a guarantee of what happens further out.

If you order, ask the seller for flat chest and body length for the size you intend to buy, and use those numbers rather than your usual letter. We sized ourselves from a seller tape, and it worked; we would not have risked a letter tag alone.

One cold wash, and how the score was set

We washed the XL by hand in cool water with a mild detergent, air-dried flat in shade, and re-measured. Chest and length were unchanged at 52 cm and 70 cm. Colour did not transfer to a white towel laid over the graphic while damp. The print survived intact. Ten days of wear covered an ordinary week plus two warm afternoons; the shirt handled hand soap and sunscreen without marking, and the moisture-wicking behaviour was plausible for a thin polyester knit — it dried noticeably faster than the cotton tee we wore alongside it.

Score: 4.0 / 5. On our scale, 5 is excellent and 4 is good. This is a good buy at $5.67 for what it is — a light, well-printed summer blank — marked down for the unpublished size chart, the thin fabric, the narrow side-seam allowance and the fact that reported blank quality for rep Gucci tees varies between production runs. Batch variance is the reason this product stays on our annual re-buy list rather than getting a single verdict and a shelf.
